Job Description

This role will report directly into the Director of Automation Engineering and be responsible for



  • Managing automation capital projects from design, integration, installation, and commissioning, ensuring they are delivering expected value to Plant Operations.


  • Reviewing existing automation systems to identify opportunities for improving safety, manufacturing efficiency, quality, throughput, and supporting vertical integration across plant boundaries.


  • Researching, designing, and developing control systems for industrial use by applying knowledge in control engineering.


  • Acting as a technical expert across the campus, troubleshooting automated equipment and robotic cells.


  • Diagnosing problems and performing repairs or modifications on automated production equipment, using advanced electrical, electronic, and mechanical skills while minimizing downtime and preventing recurrence.


  • Upgrading obsolete or hard-to-source components to ensure system reliability and maintainability.


  • Ensuring proper documentation of electrical controls and maintaining source code management for software programs.


  • Collaborating with IT, Plant Operations, and external contractors to streamline and promote enterprise-wide automation solutions.


  • Training shop floor personnel and maintenance/engineering technicians on the operation and troubleshooting of automated equipment.

The Successful Applicant

The successful candidate will have

  • 7+ years of managing capital improvement projects
  • PLC programming experience, Allen-Bradley preferred
  • Robotics and electrical schematics familiarity
  • Pneumatic, hydraulic systems and circuits knowledge
  • PID control, P&ID drawings, servo systems familiarity
  • Hands on experience troubleshooting electrical, controls, and programs of industrial automation and robotic equipment
